[ITU, Hong Kong – 5 December 2006], Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, is exhibiting its new generation end-to-end intelligent Wavelength Division Multiplexing/Optical Transport Network (WDM/OTN) solutions, that includes the OSN6800 and OSN3800, at the ITU Telecom World 2006 Exhibition held on 4-8 December 2006 in Hong Kong.
The new generation WDM/OTN solutions combine the OTN switching capability with the WDM transmission functionality to help network operators optimize network deployment, improve their network return on investment (ROI), speed up the time to market of new services and confidently meet the new era of convergence telecommunications where multiple play services are a reality.
The WDM/OTN solutions have been developed to address the current trend of network transformation in which the demands on bandwidth, quality of service (QoS) and multiple play services are constantly increasing. In this scenario the bearer network needs more flexible networking ability, higher transmission capacity and powerful capability for data processing and traffic grooming. This has been a concern for both network operators and equipment vendors as the most critical consideration to catering for an All IP network transformation.
The showcased new generation end-to-end intelligent WDM/OTN solutions fully demonstrate Huawei's proposition and understanding of operator's concerns. The solutions help transform the conventional WDM links into a real multiple wavelength intelligent optical network.
The Huawei intelligent WDM/OTN series adopts the OTN architecture and supports the next generation digital transmission hierarchy and optical transport hierarchy. As a result the transparency and efficiency of service transmission is greatly improved, while a large capacity, and effective control and management of optical domain are provided. Through integrating multi–degree Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (OADM), they provide an automatic wavelength routing within the entire network. The patent-based GE ADM and GE MADM, and the powerful L2 data processing ensure the data service grooming and transmission. In addition, the solutions adopt the distributed MPLS/ASON control plane, making the network intelligent so that reliability is improved and the operating expenditure (OPEX) of the bearer network is decreased.
