[Hong Kong December 5, 2006] Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, has announced that its shipment of GSM Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) exceeded 300,000 TRXs in 2006, a 95% increase from last year. To date Huawei has deployed a total of 800,000 GSM TRXs worldwide, serving 160 million GSM subscribers in more than 80 countries.

In China Huawei deployed 50,000 TRXs in the developed provinces of Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian and Shandong for China Mobile. It also helped Telefónica build the largest GSM network in Latin America and Emirates Telecommunications Corporation ("Etisalat") construct networks in Pakistan and Egypt.

Huawei GSM networks provide a number of future-oriented EnerG GSM solutions. The new generation GSM dual density BTS adopt advanced technologies such as transmitting diversity, high receiving sensitivity, and 4-way receiving diversity. Compared with the traditional BTS, Huawei's EnerG GSM BTS coverage areas are increased by around 40% and the number of sites can be reduced by approximately 30%. Better voice service and 3G-like services are also available on the GSM network, such as Color Ring Back Tone and EnerG-Talkie. At the same time, Huawei GSM based on next generation platform can smoothly be evolved to GSM EDGE Radio Access Networks (GERAN).
