A leading global telecom solution provider, Huawei Technologies helps operator successfully and smoothly migrate to a convergence network with its leading edge IMS solution
As the convergence of telecoms and ICT becomes a trend, operators face radical change in business model, which brings both opportunities and challenges. The next few years will be a critical time for the transformation of the telecoms industry. Today operators are experiencing a continuous revenues decline and an increasing churn, due to inadequate services that appeal to customers. Meanwhile, existing network is less effective and inflexible to provide new value added service. The addition of more new services makes the network more complex, resulting in significant increase in capex and opex. Complicating the issue is the prolonged time-to-market which makes it impossible for operators to meet customers' diversified and personalized service demands.
IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) is widely recognized in the industry as the ideal architecture to help operators resolve these problems.
How to make the deployment of IMS successful? How to protect the investment on current network? As a leading next generation network provider, Huawei's IMS solution gives operators an ideal answer.
Convergence creating value
Huawei IMS solution provides a unified solution and open service platform that supports fixed, mobile, broadband and narrowband networks, enhancing the structure of 3GPP and TISPAN IMS. With Huawei IMS solution, operators can not only provide abundant multimedia services to broadband customers, but also deliver new value-added services to users of existing mobile and fixed networks. Converged and unified networks can reduce opex and capex, and convergent services can increase customer usage and enhance customer loyalty.
Huawei IMS VCC solution supports seamless 'handover' between mobile and WiFi networks, enhancing customer satisfaction and usage. The high efficiency and quality feature of CS services and the flexible control capability of IMS are converged seamlessly in Huawei's E2G CSI solution. As a result, end-users can enjoy a wide range of new IMS-based services with rich user experience.
Open IMS eco-system
Huawei initiates IMS eco-system proactively. To help accelerate the commercialization of IMS, Huawei has set up an open lab to promote joint development of IMS-compliant systems and services. To date, Huawei has cooperated with more than 100 partners on the development of IMS-compliant services, solutions and terminals, providing end-to-end IMS solution to operators. An end-to-end solution could help operators reduce potential problems in the initial stage of IMS deployment, thereby allowing them to focus on service innovation. Meanwhile, with the open platform approach, Huawei partners can ensure their services are integrated with Huawei's IMS platform seamlessly. This makes it easier for telecoms operators to configure, maintain and manage their IMS networks.
Protecting network investment
It is anticipated that IMS and legacy networks like PSTN would co-exist for a long time during operators' migration to ALL IP. Given that Huawei softswitch and IMS elements are based on the same software and hardware platform, the softswitch can be upgraded smoothly to support IMS, thereby protecting operators' investment in existing networks.
Huawei softswitch solution has been already deployed in large scale around the world. This gains Huawei rich experiences on IP QoS, IP security and IP maintenance, and provides a strong foundation for Huawei to help operators implement IMS successfully.
Winning customers
Thanks to Huawei's advanced IMS solution and its open ecosystem approach, Deutsche Telecom in January chose Huawei as its FMC strategic partner to build the world's biggest commercial IMS network for TCOM and T-Mobile, the group's subsidiaries in Hungary. It is anticipated that the network will have an estimated 10 million of users within five years.
FMC is an important strategy of Magyar Telecom, which chose Huawei as its IMS cooperative partner for a number of reasons. It wanted a strategic partner that could supply a complete end-to-end solution. Magyar Telecom also looked to a partner that could provide advanced platform. Under this project, Huawei and its partners supplied the entire IMS network equipment and a range of IP multimedia services and applications, and diversified terminals. By providing an end-to-end QoS solution, Huawei helped unify the IP telecommunication network. The end result is that T-COM and T-Mobile could deliver a range of new multimedia services and integrated services, quickly and effectively.
"Huawei's innovative and customized solutions allow T-Com and T-Mobile supply faster and enhanced multimedia services to their customers and turn fixed mobile convergence into a reality," said Elek Straub, CEO of Magyar Telecom. "This helps cut overall costs and competitiveness, and we have confidence in the two parties' cooperation."
Leveraging its accumulated experience in IP, mobile and fixed technologies to bring success for operators in the future ALL IP era is what Huawei pursued.
