FMC solutions based on ALL IP network

With the rapid development and wide adoption of IP-based technologies the next few years will be a crucial period in the transformation of the telecoms industry.

Broadband, packetization, convergence and mobility are widely recognized as the main trends of the future. ALL IP Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) will be the corner stone of telecom future networks. Huawei's goal is to become the leader in FMC solutions based on an ALL IP network, ensuring that at any time, anywhere, via any terminal, users can enjoy services and experiences without discrepancies.

FMC enhances user experience and encompasses system engineering including services, network, terminal, OSS/BSS, amongst others. Full technical capabilities and experiences are essential for a FMC solutions provider.

The strongest driver of FMC is the need to deliver consistent customer experience and services via any terminal, at anywhere, and at anytime. Today's distinct mobile and fixed networks which provide separate voice, video, data and content services can neither meet customers' further demand, nor increase market competitiveness. FMC will play an important role as it can increase revenue and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO). FMC encompasses industry convergence, service convergence, network convergence and terminal convergence. Hence, FMC involves the transformation and upgrade of an entire network, requiring overall end-to-end considerations. That means full network capabilities and experiences are required for a FMC solutions provider.

Convergent capabilities

As a leader in providing FMC solutions, Huawei has a full range of technologies, services and convergent capabilities developed through its rich experiences in mobile networks, fixed networks and added value service fields.

In the area of Mobile Networks, Huawei's UMTS/HSPA, GSM, CDMA and WiMAX solutions are now serving 200 million subscribers in more than 80 countries and Huawei has been among the top three global mobile equipment vendors. In fixed optical networks, Huawei is ranked number two in terms of global market share by Ovum-RHK and has obtained recognition from global carriers in sophisticated markets such as the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Greece, and Canada. Focusing on the trend of multi-play, Huawei continues to innovate and become a strategic partner of operators during the process of their migration to ALL IP. In the area of Value-Added Services, Huawei solutions have been successfully deployed by 230 carriers in 94 countries. With the rapid adoption of open industry standards, Huawei proactively built inTouch open service innovation center to establish value chain and partner alliances and together develop new services and explore new business model.

Leader in FMC development

Huawei has taken advantage of its broad product technology experience to accelerate development of FMC solutions. In the area of mobile network, Huawei firstly adopted IP transmission in base station which is the foundation of sharing transport network between fixed and mobile network and of convergent access network. In the area of core network, our Softswitch and IMS adopted the unified hardware and software platforms, so softswitch can smoothly update into IMS architecture as some components. In the area of bearer network, Huawei was the first in the world to launch MSCG (Multiple Service Control Gateway) product which supports PE, BRAS, xGSN and Firewall which can realize the convergence of Service POP. In the area of service network, Huawei's unified SDP (Service Delivery Platform) supports future information services solutions including digital music, media entertainment, integrated messaging center, and IMS convergence applications. Especially, in the area of network architecture, Huawei will provide convergent service and convergent network solutions based on IMS architecture which acts as an engine for the development of convergent networks. FMC strategic partner to build the world's biggest commercial IMS network for T-COM and T-Mobile, the group's subsidiaries in Hungary. It is anticipated that the network will have an estimated 10 million of users within five years.

Entire network transformation

ALL IP architecture is the end-to-end network transformation and technical foundation of FMC solution. Carrier-class IP, as the key of telecom network, will run through all network layers. Huawei's leading position in carrier-class IP enables it to have a competitive advantage in terms of ALL-IP network solutions.

ALL IP architecture includes service networks, core networks, bearer network and access networks. The development towards ALL IP architecture will gradually change the "vertical network," characterized by technologies and services into "horizontal network" for "One Network, All Services". The major trends of access network are broadband and seamless mobility. "More optical and less copper, more wireless and less wireline" are the industry's consensus. The trends of bearer network are packet-oriented and carrier-class. Carrier-class Ethernet, Metro-WDM are the key technologies, as well as management of E2E network. At the core network layer, it is the industry's consensus that IMS will become unified control layer and Softswitch is the bridge of migration to IMS. The trends of service network are convergent experience and multi-platforms cooperation, providing convergent experience including Multimedia Communication, Multi-play and ICT services.

A pioneer

Based on our persistent "operable and manageable" concept, Huawei continuously innovates to integrate carrier-class IP technologies and other technologies of all network layers as well as planned and developed end to end All IP network solution. In the area of bearer network, Huawei proposed and implemented in 2003 the concept of the IP Telecom Network and promoted it become one of ITU-T standards (Y.1291). Huawei has also proposed the idea of V-Switch in the Ethernet field, which subsequently became one of the important standards and has been widely deployed today. Huawei is now investing in new Ethernet technologies such as PBT and MacinMac. At the access layer, Huawei pioneered the adoption of IP technologies in IPDSLAM and IP-RAN and become the leader in this field. In the area of optical network,Huawei's creative GE-ADM technology is one of the key of Metro-WDM and provides a high-efficiency solution for Ethernet service. At the core layer, Huawei has become the world-largest softswitch provider thanks to its rich experience in IP QoS, IP security and IP operation. In the area of service network, Huawei developed new technical platform ENIP2.0 which integrated IT and IP technologies to support multi-play services including voice, data, video, content and mobility.

Huawei has continuously invested in FMC solutions based on ALL IP, particularly 3G/4G, Multi-Play and IMS, to satisfy customer requirement of transformation. Huawei has provided customers with tailor made end-to-end solutions to grow their business and to meet industry trends.
